Re-imagining High Streets: Sharing Economy Model and Open Source Urban data for Mass Customization of Event Spaces

Reimagining UK Highstreets proposes an interactive design tool for mass customization of event spaces to re-activate UK Highstreets. In recent years, their value as collective public spaces have been compromised by contemporary shopping alternatives such as malls and online shopping. In response to this challenge the project aims to maximize the social and personal experience of UK High Streets bridging arts, digital fabrication, urban data and shopping. A sharing economy model implemented through a web-based interface connects shop managers with artists that want to organize live shows in High Street venues. The project offers an urban infrastructure, both digital and physical. A customizable veneer stage system Using kinetic technologies artists and shop managers can customize a veneer stage system, consisting of a foldable veneer system. The urban app also offers an urban data recommendation system that advises on suitable days and times of performances as well as related activities nearby.
